Hello Susan Crook,

Field of
Dreams - and Goals
It’s an exciting new year - a time to
cultivate new dreams and goals. Why is it,
though, that some are actually accomplished
with resounding success, while others –
remain as merely dreams and goals?
I’m not necessarily a proponent of New Year’s
resolutions, however, I do strongly believe in
goal setting – and the beginning of a new year
just happens to be a perfect time to do so.
Several years ago my husband and I began a new
tradition on New Year’s Day. We enjoy lunch at
one of our favorite restaurants (somewhere
with really great iced tea), and spend 4-5
hours goal-setting for the upcoming year. In
addition, we review and evaluate the previous
year’s goals.
This tradition gives us an opportunity to
disclose and listen to one another’s dreams
and aspirations, allowing us to solicit
support and demonstrate encouragement. As a
result, we’re better equipped to pray for and
help each other achieve our individual
pursuits, while prescribing the necessary
steps it will take to accomplish our dreams.
“By setting sharp, clearly defined goals, you
can decide what you want to do with your life,
progressing forward and taking pride in the
achievement of those goals. You determine the
small targets and what large-scale goals you
want to accomplish. Once you design steps
toward a plan, you start working to achieve
them.
As you do this, you will also raise your
self-confidence as you recognize your ability
and competence in achieving your dreams,
regardless how big or small. By breaking all
goals into small, measurable steps (pieces)
you’ll soon see significant progress. Above
all, don’t shy away from the seemingly
unobtainable. It’s the substantial dreams with
difficult opposition that keeps us challenged
and growing.
Assign a priority to each dream or goal. Think
small, culminating in a daily to-do list --
and think big, reflecting exciting
possibilities you’ve yet to encounter.
Long-term dreams launched by short- term
motivation can offer a high probability of
success within sufficient time.
Goals can, however, conflict if you don’t take
time to candidly evaluate them. For example,
you may desire to be the “2007 Parent of the
Year,” but also have the goal to be the “2007
Top Salesperson” in your company. If
accomplishing this specific career goal means
you would be required to travel extensively or
work excessively long hours, you’re parenting
goal suffers defeat.
Assess the circumstances and evaluate your
priorities. Don’t get discouraged or
overwhelmed, but recognize partial
accomplishments along the way. And remember to
congratulate yourself for each noteworthy
accomplishment, regardless of the current
circumstances in your life this year.
You’ve heard the expression, “bloom where
you’re planted.” Why not purposely and
intentionally plant a field of dreams - and
goals where you’ll bloom? May this year be
your year to cultivate a field of great
harvest (even if it’s under a layer of ice
right now)! |

D-I-S-COVER GOAL-SETTING SUCCESS!
To accomplish dreams and goals, we have to
strategize, contemplate, prioritize, and
calculate the necessary steps to achieve
success. Why is this easy for some and seemingly
impossible for others? Let’s find out why!
THE "D" PERSONALITY STYLE: “Ds” like to
do things the “fast” way. Their motto is,
“Ready, FIRE, aim!” “Ds” are lofty
goal-setters, but must ask themselves, “Is it
realistic?” Consider modifying and seeking help
(hard to do for these independent high
achievers). Develop an effective, more
manageable plan. Establish ardent and realistic
goals. If you’re a “D”, ask yourself, “Does this
stand a reasonably good chance of achieving?” If
so, the sky's the limit as to what a determined
and dogmatic "D" will accomplish this year.
THE "I" PERSONALITY STYLE: “Is” like to
do things the “fun” way. Their motto is, “Ready,
let’s talk!” "Is" are natural dreamers
(and schemers), but their tendency to
procrastinate can keep them from succeeding.
High energy and people-oriented. interactive
“Is” struggle to follow through, sit still, and
complete tasks. Decide to take a step –
regardless of how small. “Is” love recognition
and rewards (stars and accolades) for each
accomplishment. Share the news (as “Is” do so
well) for each milestone. Identify distractions
that will lure you from your course and it will
be a fun and exciting year!
THE "S" PERSONALITY STYLE: “Ss” like to
do things the “traditional” way. Their motto is,
“Ready, ready, ready..." Slower paced
“Ss” may retreat if the goal seems too big to
handle. “Ss” should seek encouragement from
family and friends; find a mentor. Identify goal
obstacles and develop a plan to overcome your
preference for status quo. Sweet, shy “Ss” can
celebrate each measure of success (it’s okay to
get a little attention). Your favored traditions
can become newfound habits – eventually breeding
confidence and success this year!
THE "C" CHILD PERSONALITY STYLE: “Cs”
like to do things the “correct” way. Their motto
is, “Ready, aim, aim, aim...” Meticulous
and perfectionistic “Cs” often struggle with
fear of failure and never get started on new
goals. Don’t worry if things aren't perfect. Be
flexible and adapt to what’s next. After all,
calculating "Cs" know how to make a list,
complete the task, and check it off so well!
Systematically work at overcoming obstacles this
year. The only true failure is failing to
attempt your dream at all.
Make it your 2007 goal to understand personality
styles and remember -- no personality style is
right or wrong -- just different!

AS WHITE AS SNOW?
"Come now, let us reason together," says the
Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they
shall be as white as snow..." Isaiah 1:18. (NIV)
He will forgive our messy sins and cover them --
as the snow covers the mucky, yucky, gunky mess
outside our windows AND ... bless us with an
abundant life to boot.
(Yes, God has always been and will always be
there for us - delivering the snow - and the
sunshine, as well!) If you seek Him, you will
find Him -- when you seek Him with all your
heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)
